" A hundred years from now, it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove - but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child" - Sign a Camelot House -

Camelot for Children was founded in 1987 by Kostas Kalogeropoulos and Patricia Mullin. They dreamed of a special gathering place where sick children could find love and support that would help them and their family's face their problems. They chose the name Camelot with the hope of providing a pure and perfect kingdom where children could share many bright and shining moments and play happily-ever-after.
In the fall of 1990 after several years of fund raising, the doors to Camelot House were opened to the children of the Lehigh Valley. It is furnished almost entirely with items donated by the local community. The house meets all state and local requirements, and includes a play room filled with toys, books, and games, a craft room, a kitchen and dining area, and family rooms. At the request of the families, a playground featuring a large wooded deck where children in wheelchairs can play with other children, was added in 1993. The house is open daily for families on a self-supervised play time basis. Camelot provides a fun-filled calendar of special events, including visits to the Birthday Room, costumed Halloween parties, etc.
Sixteen support groups currently meet at Camelot house to share camaraderie, discussion, information, and understanding. These groups represent children with cancer, diabetes, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, Down syndrome, Cystic Fibrosis and other childhood acute and chronic illnesses and disabilities. Most recently a group for children who have experienced the death of a loved one was formed at the patent's request.
Camelot also serves the community as an educational center where seminars and programs are held to further the distribution of timely information and training.
One of the most popular programs is our CAMP CAMELOT where sick children experience the joy of life while participating in outdoor activities that provide creative stimulation and friendly interaction.
To date, Camelot House has helped over 500 families providing a warm and loving environment where children can meet and play without self-consciousness or fear. For the parents, it provides a common ground, where problems and concerns can be discussed with others experiencing the same feelings.
Camelot house is approved by the IRS as a 501c(3) charitable organization, is tax-exempt and appears on the IRS list of charitable organizations. Camelot House is registered with the PA Bureau of Charitable Organizations.
Camelot House is guided by an all-volunteer Board of Directors.
All services at Camelot House are provided free of charge to the children and their families. Funding is the result of private philanthropy.
