Classy Cruisers car show helps children of Camelot

The Lehigh Valley Classy Cruisers Club's 13th annual free Show & Shine car show will showcase a wide variety of antique and classic cars, street rods and special interest vehicles from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday on the grounds of the Goodwill Fire Company, 7723 Hamilton Blvd. (Routes 100 and 222), Trexlertown, Pa.

Proceeds from the rain-or-shine event will benefit Camelot House for Children in Allentown, which provides programs and services for chronically and terminally ill children and their families.

About 300 cars, trucks and motorcycles will be joined by vintage fire engines from Goodwill Fire Company and other area fire companies.

The show also will feature food, games, 50/50 drawings, a children's coloring contest and a Chinese auction.

Vendors will offer car parts, tools and crafts. A model car contest will display a miniature version of an antique and classic car show.

A T-shirt launch of shirts donated by area businesses and other sponsors will be shot into the crowd by a giant slingshot manned by three volunteers.

Automotive technicians from AJS Engines in Bath will build and tune a high-performance Chevy 383 cubic-inch Stroker motor during the show. The motor will be awarded as the show's grand prize in the door-prize raffle.

More than 25 car show trophies will be awarded at 3:30 p.m., including a special best-of-show trophy chosen by children of Camelot House.

Cyril Timko of Lower Saucon Township, Classy Cruisers member and Show & Shine spokesman, says, "Some of the kids from Camelot House come out to help and pick their favorite car for a special trophy. The kids who are able to attend help our club members however they can, giving them a feeling of involvement with the event."

The show is free to spectators, with donations welcome. Last year's Show & Shine raised about $3,000 for Camelot House, Timko says.

Classy Cruisers also accepts ink and laser-jet cartridges for its Trash to Cash recycling program.

"Since we started the program, we've earned about $7,000 for Camelot over the past three years," Timko says.

The club holds cruises from 6 to 9 p.m. the first and last Fridays of the month. First Friday cruises are held at Westgate Mall in Bethlehem; last Friday cruises are held at Trexlertown Mall.
